Energy Saving and Maintenance-Free Valve with a Closed Design

The Armadillo Vacu-Valve is a closed construction airlock valve that provides positive seal under hoppers, cyclones and dust collectors. Because this dust-discharge valve requires no controls, lubrication or power source, it is both energy saving and maintenance-free – allowing it to operate for about one-sixth the cost of a rotary airlock valve used for discharged dust or abrasive materials.

Its duckbill valve design allows free-flowing continuous discharge, automatically adjusting to the desired vacuum. The sleeves are replaceable and available in a variety of materials which make the trickle valve suitable for general use, high-temperature or abrasive material applications. The Armadillo airlock valve has a durable enclosure making it useful in controlling dust in windy outdoor applications or in applications where the valve is not positioned close to the collection container. The enclosure has an easily removable access door.

It's typically used in industries such as foundries, mining, cement, pharmaceutical, cereal, plastics, chemical and manufacturing.

There are two types of Vacu-Valves, the Platypus and the Armadillo.

The Vacu-Valve operates based on the equilibrium between the vacuum in the system above it, the particulate size, shape, mass and physical characteristics. The sleeve forms an airlock when exposed to negative pressure above it. The vacuum must be less than -16" W.C. to pass solids. Solids will build up in the Vacu-Valve as the vacuum and sleeve friction resist, letting the particulate out. The force of gravity and weight of built-up particulate force the particles down through the sleeve until they fall out of the bottom. Fine particles with a spherical shape (ex. sand) work best. Flow rates vary based on the particulate characteristics and operating conditions.
