The 3 Common Types of Industrial Mist Collectors

If you work in the metalworking industry or another type of manufacturing plant, you may already have mist collectors throughout your facility. Mist collectors are machines that are specifically built to help provide clean air inside of a facility, reducing the adverse effects of exposure to hazardous metalworking particulate and fluids. An efficient mist collection system can also help to reduce maintenance costs and improve the quality of the product being manufactured, not to mention, they help keep employees safe. With the large variety of mist collectors available on the market today, it can be a challenge trying to decipher which system will meet your manufacturing needs. At Bisco Enterprise in Schaumburg, we’re proud to be a leading provider of air cleaning and mist collection products for a variety of specialized industrial applications. Centrifugal Mist Collectors

Centrifugal mist collectors were initially designed and manufactured for the gear boxes on nuclear submarines. The complex mechanics behind this type of mist collection system revolves around a rotating filter that traps small droplets of mist and turns them into larger droplets. The centrifugal force creates high velocity air, forcing the liquefied oil to travel along the machine's walls to a dedicated drain. Fresh air is then delivered back into the industrial building through the exhaust grill, providing employees with clean, non-hazardous air.

Cartridge Mist Collectors

Cartridge Mist Collectors, also known as media filter mist eliminators, often include a HEPA filter to efficiently remove industrial mist and smoke oil from the air. The process for this type of mist collection system is fairly simple: air containing oil smoke and coolant mist is forcibly drawn into the cartridge by a fan or blower. The hazardous mist and oil particles are then forced through a HEPA filter where the droplets, mist, and particles are successfully filtered out of the existing air.

Electrostatic Precipitator Mist Collectors

Electrostatic precipitator mist collectors use the power of high voltage to charge and gather the smallest mist particles and droplets. Most often used to filter mist and oil smoke in industrial applications, this type of mist collection system imparts a positive charge onto particles being carried by the air current. The air is then passed between a series of negatively-charged plates, which the positively-charged mist particles are attracted to. Once the hazardous particles stick to the plate, they are completely removed from the airflow.
